Doris Benmaman

She was born in Caracas to a family of Sephardic and Ashkenazi origin.

Her musical career began with classical guitar with Professor José Gregorio Guánchez and later moved on to the lute with Professor Rubén Riera.

She graduated from the Institute of Musical Studies (IDEM) in 1995 with a degree in Musical Pedagogy.

She graduated as a teacher of Early Music, specializing in plucked string instruments from the Hochschule fur Musik in Trossingen, Germany, under Professor Rolf Lislevand and Eugen Ferre among others.

In 2001 she continued her studies of early music at the “Schola Cantorum Basilensis” in Basel, Switzerland with teachers such as Peter Croton, Richard Levitt, Hopkinson Smith and Jordi Saval.

She has combined her career as a performer with choral direction, alongside teachers Alberto Grau and María Guinand.

She was the founding director of the Cantoría Juvenil de la Schola Cantorum de Caracas, and has also been the director of various choirs in Germany, Switzerland and France. She currently directs the choir of the Centro Israelita de Costa Rica.

She has performed as a soloist in festivals in Europe and Latin America.

Doris recorded the album "De tu boca al Cielo" dedicated to Sephardic music, where she sings and accompanies herself on the lute.

The Israeli Embassy and the Municipality of Limón celebrated the Day of the Encounter of Cultures, with the Exhibition, Ancestral Legacy, the conference, The Beta Israel Calendar, given by the Ambassador of Israel, Oren Bar El, and a concert of Ladino music. The events inaugurated the cultural week, took place on October 12 and 13, at the House of Culture of Limón. We share a note from Channel 36.
